For the theatrical production O.M.I. (One More Intelligence), directed by Irene Pérez Muñoz at Teatre L’Artesà, an interactive scenography was developed to explore the tension between human agency and algorithmic mediation. Rather than utilizing static backdrops, the production required a digital environment that acted as a literal extension of the physical stage—blurring the boundaries between the performer’s physical body and her digital representation.

The technical core of the installation was built in TouchDesigner, utilizing a Kinect 2.0 motion sensor to capture the performer’s silhouette and depth in real-time. This data was used to generate a 3D digital double, which was then seamlessly rendered into a custom virtual environment designed and built specifically for the piece. By taking responsibility for both the 3D world-building and the interaction logic, a unified aesthetic was maintained between the performer's movements and the digital space she inhabited. The result was a hybrid scenography where the actress was merged into the digital space, creating a visual dialogue between the human performer and the algorithm.

Executing real-time interaction in a theatrical context presented unique challenges in environmental stability and sensor precision. A primary engineering focus was the calibration between stage lighting and the infrared requirements of the motion sensor; the system was tuned to ensure high-fidelity tracking while maintaining the director’s specific lighting design. This resulted in a robust, low-latency system capable of meeting the rigorous demands of live theatre, providing a stable technical backbone that allowed the actress and director to focus entirely on the performance.
